OVERVIEW

The Australian Retail Credit Association (ARCA) aims to promote responsible lending and establish a benchmark for best practice in consumer credit management through reciprocal sharing and use of this credit information and data. ARCA’s primary objective is to develop industry codes and standards in relation to the use of information across the retail credit industry.

In continuing to uphold these objectives, the ARCA Data Standards Work Group has developed the Australian Credit Reporting Data Standard and Schema which will be available to credit providers and credit reporting bodies upon request. This document details the requirements for reporting credit accounts, and events relating to those accounts, between Credit Providers and Credit Reporting Bodies in Australia.

Background

Credit Reporting Bodies and Credit Providers operating in the Australian market are subject to the provisions of the Australian Federal Privacy Act, which regulates the system of credit reporting.

Under changes to the Privacy Act in 2012, more comprehensive credit reporting will enable the collection and reporting of details of consumer credit accounts and re-repayment history information.  This is in addition to the ‘negative’ (i.e. default and adverse data) and loan application enquiry data that is currently able to be collected and reported.

The Australian Credit Data Reporting Requirements document and schema has been developed by ARCA Members to define the requirements for reporting of credit data between Credit Providers and Credit Reporting Bodies.

This document does not contain legal or compliance advice. Legal and compliance advice should be obtained by each respective signatory to address their respective legal obligations.
